TPT vs CrossFit

TPT vs CrossFit

February 01, 14945 min read

Everyone has been asking me about which program is better and what the difference is between Thurston Personal Training and CrossFit. People want to know which one is going to get them the best results and I don’t want to bash anyone’s program just simply lay out the facts so you can decide which is best for you. You can definitely get phenomenal results with both.

I can say with confidence that there is a better chance TPT is going to deliver results than CrossFit.

Here’s why…

Let’s compare the two programs “TPT and CrossFit” with important factors that are essential to getting best results for the average person…

TPT vs CrossFit – Side By Side Comparison

Accountability:

TPT – With TPT you get the choice of a personal trainer who will be there for every appointment, motivating you, keeping you accountable, and checking your progress along the way. You can also go with small group training which range from 2-6 people which is great because the classes are small enough for the trainer to watch everybody and you develop great camaraderie and encouragement with the members.

CrossFit – The accountability for CrossFit is good as well. You have to physically show up at the CrossFit box to do your workout. You have a trainer that keeps track of times times and writes them on the board. Only downside is classes range from 20 – 30 people so you don’t really get any attention or noticed at all.

For the beginner who is out of shape I would recommend TPT because in the beginning more attention is needed in order to teach correct form to prevent injury and making sure you are doing everything right to get results at all. TPT excellent options of 1 on 1 or small group training (2-6 people), where you will get the attention you need.

Length of Workouts:

TPT – TPT’s workout can range from 60 minutes to 1:30 (extra cardio / stretching). The average workout time is about 60 minutes.

CrossFit – The most common CrossFit workout or called WOD (Workout of the day) is an average of 20 minutes long.

Getting your workout done in 20 minutes instead of 60 minutes sounds like an instant winner...But then you have to consider the “quality” of the workout, not everybody is capable of doing enough work in 20 minutes. An advanced CrossFit member or someone who has been working out his whole life could possibly get a great workout in but for someone who is inexperienced, they could get injured with a time based workout “go as fast as you can” mentality.
With TPT having more advanced gym equipment also allows customization for different ability levels and goals.

Type of Workouts:

TPT – TPT focuses on Muscle Hypertrophy and Confusion concepts using resistance training, proportionality working each body part to create symmetry and balance for a better looking body. Never letting your body adapt to the always changing workouts you avoid plateauing, while being pushed and motivated by your trainer TPT really delivers a whole-fitness program.

CrossFit – CrossFit workouts are designed to train speed, strength, and power including major lifts such as dead-lifts, power cleans, back squats, pull-ups, along with other heavy lifting movements. During these workouts, the goal is to use the prescribed weight and complete the prescribed number of rounds or reps as fast as possible, creating the most amount of volume or power.

All of the moves done in CrossFit are designed for elite athleticism which is awesome, but for the person trying to get a beach body, look like a model, or lose 200lbs CrossFit doesn’t offer any modifications. Each TPT workout is actually customized by each person’s ability and goal. One thing I really dislike is the CrossFit competitiveness. I’m all about competition and pushing each other to give 100% efforts, but with timed workouts like CrossFit offers this means sacrificing form to get more reps/weight… And this leads to the highest injury rate that CrossFitters have successful achieved. You could also have bad form in TPT but this is only a result of laziness or the need to modify, and not because someone is watching and you want to show off to get more cleans and jerks than the other guy.

Nutrition:

TPT – Offers a complete nutrition program and customized meal plan designed by professionals that walks you step by step on how to combine eating to achieve your goal and balance it into your schedule to create long term healthy eating.
CrossFit – No nutrition plan or supplementation advice.

TPT is the winner again providing all your nutritional needs, even complete with food delivery (if you hate cooking), personal motivation/accountability from a professional trainer, and the intense workouts you need to make visual changes in your body.

Conclusion – TPT or CrossFit

I don’t want you to think that you absolutely can’t get results from CrossFit... of course you can. But in my opinion CrossFit is not the best option for the person who is out of shape, or who has injuries and NEEDS modifications.
TPT offers a more comfortable but still intense atmosphere where you can struggle and the team or your trainers cheer you on! The workouts are creating to address all aspects of fitness: strength, power, agility, endurance, balance, and flexibility. You also get a complete nutrition program and meal plan that addresses all your questions and confusion about what to eat to get mind blowing results.
…In my humble opinion, TPT is the better choice because it offers a safe means to get in shape, achieve your ripped/sculpted dream body, whereas CrossFit is really only awesome if you have a football game coming up.
