“Perfect” Body Proportions of Men and Women

“Perfect” Body Proportions of Men and Women

March 05, 14713 min read

Just as no two human beings are exactly alike, there is no "perfect" proportion for each individual. There are however, scientists, fitness professionals, and researchers who have investigated what ideal proportions are for varying segments of the general population, and niche population such as body builders. While specific numbers might be provided in this article, it is important to remember that these are simply numbers, and that these exact numbers are less important when compared to overall body proportions and physical health.

For women, the "magic" number is considered to be "36"-"24"-"36", defined as a 36 inch bust, 24 inch waist, and 36 inch hips. This is considered to be the "perfect" proportion for women, and is thought of as the "hour-glass figure" due to its symmetry. However, specific numbers are not entirely accurate, due to the fact that only about 8% of the female population naturally has an hourglass figure. The hourglass look, however, can be achieved by body sculpting. This process of body sculpting focuses on creating proportion throughout the body with high intensity weighted workouts, and can help women achieve the look of equal sized hips and shoulders and a narrow, tight waist. The specific numbers are not as important as the aesthetic of a proportionate body shape. For female body-builders for example, aesthetics (how they look) are most important throughout the entire body, not just the waist, bust, and hips, but also other body parts such as thighs, arms, calves, of which measurement varies depending on the types of competitions they train for.

For men, "perfect" body proportion is considered to be a "48"-"30," or a 48 inch chest and a 30 inch waist. This look is considered to be the ideal proportion for men--broad shoulders with a narrow waist. This number can change depending on who is measuring--for male body builders for example, the optimal chest size is 54 inches, with a 30-inch waist and 18 inch arms! Again, the perfect proportion in measurements is not as important as the look of being proportionate, which can be achieved through exercise and diet. Each individual will be different in terms of exact measurements, but they can control body proportions through careful body sculpting sessions and nutrition consultations with a personal trainer or fitness experts.

Perhaps the most important aspect to remember regarding proportion and aesthetics in terms of physical attractiveness is that these ratios are attained and maintained by building muscle. While a very small percentage of the population is born with these "perfect" proportions, the vast majority of people have to work hard in the gym and in the kitchen to grow into or slim down into these shapes. The key to getting these results have to come from building the proportioned figure through body sculpting and maintaining muscle mass.
